Delhi University to introduce Goods and Service Tax in the curriculum!

The university is planning to include GST in its curriculum for their B.Com (Hons), B.Com and BA programmes. Sunaina Kanojia, an Academic Council member said that “the taxation paper which was part of the three streams – B.Com (Hons), B.Com and BA programmes will be replaced with the content on other indirect taxes.

The proposal is said to be cleared by the academic council but still waiting for the clearance from the executive council.

In which semester will the GST be included?
  • For B.Com (Hons) – Students will be studying GST and Customs Law as a second paper in their 6th semester.
  • For B.com   - Students will be studying GST with the same title in their 5th semester.
  • For B A– Students will be studying GST in two papers (Paper 3 and Paper 4). It will be compulsory for students who have taken taxation as an optional subject
Assistant professor Kanojia from the Delhi School of Economics said that “the papers will carry 100 marks and it is compulsory for the above mentioned stream.

With people still confused with the GST implementation, and strikes in most of the cities, this proposal comes in as a surprise, we need to wait and wait on how students, academicians and parents are welcoming this subject.  We are just 7 days old when it comes to GST. July 7th marks 7 days, where the state and central taxes were introduced.  It is too early to comments, as citizens of this country we need to wait and watch. For more Details please click here
