Scholarship and fee-waiver in Higher education
A
certain section of society has always been given a lot of importance and
attention. Here as well, when it comes to the admissions of higher education universities, certain sections of the society have been given
the privilege of the fee-waiver system and the scholarship by means of
their categories.
According to the
Delhi University, the needy students who have less stable financial
conditions would be given fee-waiver privilege and also, Scholarships for the sections of society.
Under the scheme, students from family with Card issued under the
National Food Security Scheme will receive 100% fee waiver while
students from families with income up to Rs 2.5 lakhs per annum will get
a 50% fee waiver. Those from families with income above Rs 2.5 lakhs
and not exceeding Rs 6 lakhs per annum will receive 25 % fee waiver. An
overall budget of around 10 Crores have been given for the academic year
2017-2018 to sustain all of the students and their Scholarships
or fee-waiver systems. even though fee-waiver system would not require
any money to be given to the students, but the university still needs
money to maintain the customs and forums of the year. Hence the money
has been allocated.Click here:
The main
criteria being that the student who would be there to avail the
scholarship would need to have a minimum of 60 percentage in the
examinations considered. A statement from Delhi government claimed that
it is "the first Indian State to provide fee waiver to students from
families with income up to Rs 6 lakhs per annum".
The Delhi Higher Education Aid Trust has been given the in-charge of
these decisions and further implementation. To avail the scholarship,
undergraduate students need to get a minimum of 60% marks (5% relaxation
for students from SC/ST category). The decision has been applauded by a
lot of people, and opposed by other sections of the society as well.
