Financial Technology Courses for MBA students at Global B-Schools

Business Schools in the USA have taken an inclination towards teaching their students the details of financial technology or Fintech. They believe that through this the student will become aware of and will be able to deal with the latest developments. They will become analytical and critical thinkers. Finance technology is a subsector of Wall Street.

Many Universities have joined hands to start a course in Fintech. Business schools from Stanford University and Georgetown University have decided to introduce a course on these lines. New York University had run a one-year course last year and its success has prompted the university to launch course for undergraduates. Many other universities are going ahead with this course, but the problem is that since this is a relatively new field there is not much study material available so every college or university makes its own material based on their experience and knowledge and teaches through them. Pennsylvania University’s Wharton College, Columbia University, Business Schools, and Sloan school of Management (Massachusetts University) are some of the schools which have started to teach this course of Fintech or Financial Technology.Business School in Maharashtra.

One of the reasons of starting this course is student’s demands. This is mainly due to the fact that a lot of new start-ups based on the fintech way have entered the market and students have developed an interest in Apps like Venmo (mobile Payment), Sofi(digital loan platform) and (robotic wealth managers) like Betterment.

The students have become more interested in innovation unlike what they were a few years back - interested only in investment banking and trading. As there are no readymade teaching material available institutes offering fintech courses will depend on material prepared by them. This material will be based on bitcoin or crypto currencies, by preparing their own study material the experience of the teachers will be of great help. Like for e.g. MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) taught a course based on block chain the technology which first supported bitcoin. Similarly, Stanford has decided to focus on designing affordable products and services for disadvantaged or challenged persons and also financial inclusion.

In the absence of readymade and proper teaching material professors are teaching students about the disruptive technologies used in the markets. This gives the students an insight into and an idea as to what is happening and how to deal with it thus empowering them to develop new business ideas. Some professors develop lectures from real life cases too.

The experienced and knowledgeable among the great finance and business wizards also feel that Fintech will help students with their careers in the field of Finance be it on the traditional Wall Street kind or even if they open their own firms. Thus, Fintech seems to be the in thing in MBA schools.
