Delaware's ESSA plan first in the country to receive approval

Delaware is the first state to get a green light on its federal Every Student Succeeds Act plan. The approval by U.S. Education Secretary Betsy Devo’s Tuesday comes after the department expressed concerns about the ambitiousness of Delaware’s student achievement goals and several other issues earlier this year. "Delaware has always been a part of state of firsts, so that it should be no surprise that theirs was both the first state plan submitted and the first approved under ESSA," said Devo’s in a statement. The U.S. Dept. of Education sent Delaware back to the drawing board in June, and Delaware’s Department of Education submitted its revised plan on June 29th.Then, a Delaware Dept. of Education spokesperson says that on July 18th there was a brief follow-up call with the U.S. Dept. of Education, and three clarifications were made. After admission fever, seats vacant at DU

Colleges can’t reduce the cut-off as such a move can lead to over- admission . The admission season has ended at Delhi University (DU), but surprisingly many colleges are finding it difficult to fill some seats vacant for merit-based undergraduate programmes. The problem is that colleges can’t reduce the cut-off as such a move can lead to over-admission in a particular course. Mumbai University Deadline for MBA admissions may be pushed

Mumbai University (MU) unlikely to declare all the results anytime soon, they are waiting for a while, the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) may push the deadline to seek  admission in B-schools within few weeks across the state. The DTE had directed management aspirants to secure admission to seats allotted through centralised admission process (CAP) by Friday, while August 14 was set as the cut-off date for all types of admissions to MBA and MMS courses. However, many aspirants from MU-affiliated colleges are unable to complete the admission process, as the varsity is yet to declare the Results of 223 out of 477 examinations, including final year B.Com , BA and BE .  "We are mulling postponing the cut-off date for admissions to MBA and MMS," said Dayan and Mesh ram, joint director, DTE.  This year, MU adopted an on-screen marking process for the assessment process, replacing the traditional pen-and-paper evaluation. PG&E awards Chico State student $20,000 STEM Scholarship

A deserving Chico State student, Rigober to Vazquez Jr., was awarded a PG&E Better Together Scholarship of up to $5,000 per year for up to four years. Vazquez is one of 20 Northern and Central California students chosen from 2,000 applicants to receive the scholarship to complete his college degree. PG&E’s fifth annual Better Together Scholarship program helps to cover undergraduate education expenses for selected high school seniors, or college, university or vocational-technical students to complete their higher education paths. Rupsa Banerjee, a student of English literature was presented the Pemanda Monappa Scholarship by Indira Banerjee, the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court at a function on Wednesday. FTII to establish 11 short-term courses soon

The FILM and Television Institute of India had exclaimed that they soon establish 11 new short-term skill development courses which create skilled workforce for the television and cinema industry. The National Skill Development Council (NSDC) gave approval to FTII to conduct such courses. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry is focusing on various efforts to offer quality education and want FTII to set a benchmark for other academic institutes across the country. Goa CM Manohar Parrikar announced in the legislative assembly that the number of students joining in the government schools has been increasing. While speaking on the floor of the house he said that “the number of students in government run schools has stabilized. There is a little increase in their number.” Some fear was conveyed by RSS leader Mr. Subash Velingkar led Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch that 450 government primary schools would close in the years to come but the Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar had made a clear reference about it. New JNU hostel to allot 75% rooms to north-east students

A new hostel is going to come up on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in New Delhi, where 75 per cent of the rooms will be allotted to the students from the northeast, Union minister Jitendra Singh said on Monday. The announcement was made on July 24, 2017, by the Union Minister of State for the Development of North East India Jitendra Singh. He laid down the foundation stone for the new hostel that will be called Barak Hostel after the Barak River in the north-east. Although the construction of the hostel has been pending for up to three years, the minister said that the hostel will most likely be operational after 20 months. In order to promote 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign and to interact with the students, North Delhi Mayor, Preeti Agarwal visited Municipal Primary school at Sarswati Vihar. Round II of FYJC admissions 2017

There is increase in demand in humanities among the students which became evident after the cut-offs of the second round of the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) were declared on Saturday. The cut offs for the arts steams were higher than the science in most top colleges across the city. At some colleges, the cut off for arts seats in the second round is same as the first round.  At Shivaji Nagar’s Modern College, the cut-off for Round II was 457 marks, the same as the Round I. At Symbiosis College, the cut-off for Round II was 473 marks, a one-mark drop, compared to its cut-off of 474 marks in Round I.
