Tamil Nadu Engineering College Students to travel abroad under FTTP Programme

Come July, 100 students from Anna University and Government Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu, for the first time, will fly to foreign universities for two weeks under the Foreign Technical Training Programme (FTTP) introduced by the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa last year.

In the first batch, 17 students, including 14 from mechanical and three from EEE are visiting Universitat Rovira I Virgili, Spain between July 12 and 27, 2017. Similarly, another 16 students are visiting the Yokohama National University, Japan between July 12 and 26.

Tamil Nadu Assembly

It may be recalled that on August 23, 2016, the then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced the scheme in the Tamil Nadu Assembly stating it was her wish to ensure that just as private engineering colleges sent their students to foreign universities for a short term training programme, the students of Government engineering colleges received it too. The scheme involves a recurring expenditure of Rs.1.5 crore a year. Out of these 100 students, 50 will be from Anna University and another 50 will be from Government Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu.

According to the announcement, the students completing their third year of each branch were ranked based on the cumulative marks obtained from first to fifth semester in the university end semester examinations in each branch. The selected students will undergo FTTP for 15 days in Spain and Japan respectively. The accommodation, travel and visa charges are provided by the Government.
