Tamil Nadu Engineering College Students to travel abroad under FTTP Programme
Come July, 100 students from Anna
University and Government Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu, for the
first time, will fly to foreign universities for two weeks under the Foreign Technical Training Programme (FTTP) introduced by the late Chief
Minister J Jayalalithaa last year.
In the first batch, 17 students, including 14 from mechanical and
three from EEE are visiting Universitat Rovira I Virgili, Spain between
July 12 and 27, 2017. Similarly, another 16 students are visiting the
Yokohama National University, Japan between July 12 and 26.
Tamil Nadu Assembly
It may be recalled that on August 23, 2016, the then Chief Minister J
Jayalalithaa announced the scheme in the Tamil Nadu Assembly stating it
was her wish to ensure that just as private engineering colleges sent
their students to foreign universities for a short term training
programme, the students of Government engineering colleges received it
too. The scheme involves a recurring expenditure of Rs.1.5 crore a year.
Out of these 100 students, 50 will be from Anna University and another
50 will be from Government Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu.
According to the announcement, the students completing their third
year of each branch were ranked based on the cumulative marks obtained
from first to fifth semester in the university end semester examinations
in each branch. The selected students will undergo FTTP for 15 days in
Spain and Japan respectively. The accommodation, travel and visa charges
are provided by the Government.
